Welcome to Kollnot Rock’n'Metal Reviews

Hi everyone! My name is Jonathan Kollnot, and welcome to Kollnot Rock’n'Metal Reviews. This weblog is a space for me to post some of my thoughts on hard rock rock and metal albums both contemporary and classic. Back in the mid-to-late 1990s, I published a little print fanzine called Kollnot Music that focused on reviews and interviews of contemporary power/progressive metal bands. I have been wanting to get back into writing reviews again for quite some time, but this time my focus is on reviewing a more eclectic mix of genres and musical time periods, from that obscure Budgie record of the early 1970s to the brand new Megadeth CD. Basically, this site serves as a fun forum to comment on the variety of rock and metal that I enjoy listening to.

As for my writing credentials, I received my B.A. in journalism and literature at Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1999. Since then, I have worked as a prep sports reporter and copy-editor here in West Michigan for the better part of 11 years, and I had metal reviews published in the Grand Rapids Press back in 2000. In 2007, I achieved my Michigan Secondary teaching certificate in English and History at Grand Valley State University, and I currently (winter 2012) am finishing up my Master’s in Secondary Education.

When I’m not working on this site and for my various part-time jobs, I enjoy playing my various musical instruments, including piano, bass guitar, drums, and my newest obsession: alto saxophone. I also used to play bass in the band Raptor School here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We released our debut CD Redefine in August, 2009, but of course I will not stoop to reviewing my own CD on here.=) Reading classic literature and history is one of my main passions, and I am absolutely obsessed with The Great War and sci-fi series such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. There’s also a rumor running around that I may be trying to get into scale modeling, but I can’t confirm or deny that until I actually achieve some actual results. Ha!

Also, I will always try to include links to band websites and/or relevant retailers with each review to provide as much information to you, the devoted rockers, as possible. So happy reading and rocking, and please feel free to drop me a line anytime!-Jonathan Kollnot.
